RORSCHACH
Autopsy (CD)
Autopsy is an intense collection of RORSCHACH’s entire recording history, capturing 31 songs recorded between 1989 and 1993. Opening with tracks from the band's vicious hardcore debut Remain Sedate, it is clear that there is nothing happy or overly melodic in the near future. The disc goes on to include tracks culled from a number of 7" discs that the band appeared on, as well as its second LP Protestant. As the record progresses, the grinding sludge gives way to a more complicated and metal-influenced variation on the original themes. Lead vocalist Charles Maggio stays pretty consistent throughout the entire production, with his anguished screams making it sound like he's being unrelentingly attacked. Even the closing cover of BLACK FLAG's “My War” includes his guttural yelping over the band's evil take on the early hardcore classic. The members of RORSCHACH are pros at their craft, and this is a fine collection that showcases their heavy power and puts the band's many efforts in an attractive single package." ~Peter J. Live In Italy 92 (CD/LP)
“Released nearly ten years after its recording- as well as long after the demise of the band itself- this document of RORSCHACH's chaotic live show is still as vicious today as it was back then. Live in Italy: 6-18-92 is seventeen tracks of the band's live brutality that encompasses music written throughout their five-year tour of duty together. For those who thought singer Charles Maggio's guttural screams were somehow treated by any effects, his performance on here will destroy any doubts that his angry howls are anything but man made. Leading the band through the 45-minute set (which, for the record, is quite a long show for such a hard playing and emotionally draining act) Maggio's anguished cries garnish the finely honed hardcore metal chops of the rest of the band, who aren't too bad off to begin with. The record certainly doesn't compare to the pure chaos that the show must have been, but the energy is still infectious, and this is a fantastic glimpse at just how wild the band was in their heyday. RORSCHACH fans will obviously want to get their hands on this disc, as it is most likely the final offering from the long defunct act, but there is something compelling about the ferocious performance that should turn the heads of anyone who understands the strength of an explosive live show.” ~ Peter J.
