ALL NATURAL LEMON & LIME
Some overzealous critics might describe ALL NATURAL LEMON & LIME FLAVORS as a cross between MY BLOODY VALENTINE and STEREOLAB. Sure, there are some similarities, but those who delve deeper will find more complex pleasures. Vertigo-inducing swirls of guitars and keys, beautiful indie pop sensibilities, choral vocal polyphonies and krautrock electronic experimentation create the mood. The overall effect is of shimmering beauty that subtly changes just like sunlit reflections with ethereal dreaminess. ALL NATURAL LEMON & LIME FLAVORS makes a point of questioning the way things are conventionally done in music. With a sound that is equal parts head music, indie, space rock, and new wave, this band is remarkably different yet pleasantly familiar. | | | RELEASES

ALL NATURAL LEMON & LIME FLAVORS Turning Into Small (CD/LP) “Another of the many fine American releases that shows dream pop didn't die, it just switched continents, Turning Into Small finds ALL NATURAL LEMON & LIME FLAVORS blissing out with the best of them. The cascading guitars aren't just reminiscent of MY BLOODY VALENTINE (though generally with a lighter, brighter tone), but A. R. KANE, BOO RADLEYS, KITCHENS OF DISTINCTION and many others- manna from heaven for those who value plenty of feedback, sweetly delivered. "You Can Never Tell" starts everything out right on that front, with extra instrumentation here and there adding to the calm chaos, and from there the group tries out various approaches, shuffling funk beats, swoony psych drones, and whatever else will fill the bill. For all that the genre has a perceived problem with direct melodies, ANL&LF sneak in some memorable riffs along the way without calling attention to them, like on "Lattershed," which has some definite hints of NEW ORDER. The intense, repetitive core melody on "Snowflake Eye," meanwhile, adds to the low-key nervous psychosis of the song as a whole, making it an underrated highlight. "Your Imagination" is pleasant enough, but with the slow up-and-down synth wash starts taking over toward the end, it becomes vast, spiraling, a candy-colored sonic heaven... -Ned Raggett, All Music Guide |

ALL NATURAL LEMON & LIME FLAVORS Straight Blue Line (CD) “This stunning collection of early U.S. singles and one previously unreleased track came along after the New Jersey-based ALL NATURAL LEMON & LIME FLAVORS had already decided to call it a day. Pity too, as this tremendously underrated dream pop band was one of the most intriguing acts to come along in the post MY BLOODY VALENTINE era. Favorably compared to well-known bands like STEREOLAB, PALE SAINTS and early BOO RADLEYS, ANL&LF was considered a contemporary of labelmates THE VAN PELT. The band's use of dreamy, somewhat androgynous-sounding vocals (think Thom Yorke of RADIOHEAD, or even THE COCTEAU TWINS’ Liz Fraser), pink noise, and analog space pop drones creates vertigo-inducing atmospheres, and includes various elements found in the emo, indie, space rock, and new wave genres. The opening scorcher, "Repetitive Monotonous," is a fine example of what ANL&LF were always capable of, with its multicolored starburst of guitar textures and rapturous melody." -Bryan Thomas, All Music Guide | | | |
